River, River, Roam - Socially Engaged Artist in Residence

An Artist residency connecting the Stockroom communities to our local waterways.

Published: 30 April 2025

Photographic artist Liz Wewiora will take up residence at the Stockroom this Summer, to invite local families, in particular new mums, to explore their relationship to the River Mersey and local waterways. During Liz's own pregnancy which fell during the lockdown, and as a mother now, the River Mersey holds an important place in her life, as a free space for wellbeing, connection and engagement with nature.

Unfortunately we are seeing drastic changes to the wellbeing of our rivers and canals across the UK, with 75% of the country's rivers identified as in poor health for people and the planet. The residency aims to explore individual's' relationship to the River Mersey from past to present, as well as looking forward to its future.

Join Liz for a series of drop in creative photography and craft based workshops using archival imagery, audio, photo collage and video throughout this summer at Stockroom.

The work produced will support a wider programme, The River Corridors project, which is part of her research degree with the University of Salford and Open Eye Gallery so the public will also get to work with students from the Art and design programmes as part of the opportunity.
