A New Mycelium Installation for Stockroom

We’re excited to be creating a new installation for the Stockroom window, made entirely from mycelium, a sustainable material that’s easy to grow and some of which we’ve foraged locally from Woodbank Park. The installation will reflect Stockport’s landscape while showing how we can use environmentally friendly materials in creative ways.

The themes for the piece were inspired by the people of Stockport. During a community art walk, we invited participants to explore different parts of the town, sketching and reflecting on the places that stood out to them. Their ideas have helped shape the final design, making this project a real collaboration with the community.

We’re also working with 2 local artists to create the forms for the installation. They’ll be using mycelium alongside materials that would otherwise have been thrown away, adding another layer of sustainability to the process.

This installation isn’t just about creating something beautiful; it’s about celebrating Stockport, its people, and the potential of natural, renewable materials.
